Cumulative service period of eight (8) years' relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been at the grade of Senior Officer KSA Grade 5 Β or in a comparable position;

Bachelor's degree in any of the following disciplines: Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Aeronautical/Aerospace, Remote Sensing, Geographical Information Science, Geo-Spatial Engineering, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Control and Instrumentation, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
-
Master's degree in any of the following disciplines: Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Aeronautical/Aerospace, Remote Sensing, Geographical Information Science, Geo-Spatial Engineering, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;

Membership to the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), Institute of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK) or any other recognized professional body where applicable;

Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;

Proficiency in computer applications.

Key Responsibilities:
-
Implementing and reviewing regulations, strategies, and guidelines for Earth observation data utilization;
-
Performing remote sensing applications, digital image processing, and interpretation, providing technical analysis of data;
-
Generating training materials and training sessions on Earth Observation related programmes;
-
Undertaking acquisition, processing, distribution, and archiving of space-derived data, ensuring proper storage and retrieval systems;
-
Undertaking research on development of Earth observation satellites and promoting their use for various applications;
-
Undertaking research and innovation initiatives related to Earth observation, contributing to new technological developments;
-
Establishing and maintaining networks and partnerships with stakeholders to enhance Earth observation activities;
-
Conducting in-depth needs assessments for Earth observation data and analyzing requirements from stakeholders;
-
Implementing guidelines for managing and sharing Earth observation data with stakeholders, ensuring compliance with standards;
-
Promoting access to Earth observation data and products, ensuring that relevant stakeholders benefit from the information;
-
Implementing Earth observation programs, projects and activities;
-
Supporting the development of Earth observation applications and solutions, assisting in the design and development processes;
-
Liaising with stakeholders to facilitate research and innovation in Earth observation;
-
Conducting needs assessments for Earth observation data, determining requirements for stakeholders and analyzing gaps in data;
-
Evaluating national capability for the dissemination and archival of space-derived data, ensuring systems are in place for efficient data sharing;
-
Documenting risk management for Earth observation, identifying potential risks and supporting mitigation strategies; and
-
Coordinating capacity building and knowledge management activities in Earth observation, supporting the development and execution of training programs.
