Responsibilities:
-
Ensure complete pre-op assessment including the surgical checklist, nursing documentation and physician’s assessment
-
Receive the patient prior to surgery, gets report from the accompanying nurse and performs pre-op checklist.

Circulate and assist as needed for minor surgeries under supervision
-
Ensure effective recovery of stable patients post any form of anaesthesia.

Assists with intubation and extubation of patient in the Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and if required in the Operating Room (OR)

Communicate with anaesthetist and primary teams regarding patient issues and shifting plans.

Promptly report both clinical and non-clinical unusual findings to the nurse manager or designee

Identify patient and family learning needs and initiate appropriate teaching

Perform pain assessment and initiate analgesia as required

Ensure that nursing documentation is timely, comprehensive and complete

Ensure all specimens are properly labelled and delivered to the lab in a timely manner

Provide safe environment for patients through adherence to infection control practices and other safety policies

Be able to recognize a patient in a pre-arrest or arrest states and initiate Basic Life Support

Dispose of clinical and non-clinical waste safely in accordance with Aga Khan University Hospital guidelines on waste management

Administer medication safely, monitor patient responses to medication and promptly report adverse reactions

Care of equipment through cleaning, storage, per shift check of the inventory and timely reporting and follow up on non-functional equipment to the nurse manger designee.

Participate in unit based nursing education, quality improvement (QI) projects, audits, spot checks and skill checks
Requirements:

RN from a recognized school of nursing or university

Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya

Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)

Demonstrate evidence based knowledge of current practices in theater nursing.
Responsibilities:
Safety & Security Incident Management
-
Coordinate timely resolution, investigation, documentation, and closure of all incidents.
-
Allocate investigations, ensure root cause analysis, and implement corrective/preventive actions.
-
Initiate disciplinary processes where necessary and report criminal/medico-legal cases to police.
-
Maintain accurate, accessible records for all cases investigated.
-
Maintain and track status of all cases reported to the police and which are before courts.
-
Prepare and submit quarterly incident analysis reports.
-
Coordinate liaison with police, fire brigade, and other authorities for incident management.
**JCI Compliance (Safety, Security & Fire Safety, Safety & HAZMAT Programs) **

Ensure development, implementation, and continuous updating of all departmental policies, procedures, and plans aligned with JCI standards.

Oversee monitoring of departmental HVAs, KPIs, QVAs, audits, and inspection outcomes, ensuring corrective actions are implemented accordingly.

Coordinate safety, fire safety, and security drills and ensure documentation and implementation of follow-up actions.
-
Ensure implementation of staff training, SQE requirements, and compliance with identification protocols.
-
Oversee annual risk assessments and PCRA (pre-, during-, and post-construction) assessments are conducted and ensure mitigation measures are effectively implemented.
Response to Safety & Security Emergencies
-
Ensure that a sound emergency response protocol is in place and being implemented fully.
-
Ensure that ERT (Emergency Response Team) are in place, are trained adequately and equipped to respond timely to safety and security emergencies.
-
Ensure that the emergency response time is monitored, documented and any shortcomings corrected accordingly.
-
Ensure that all emergencies’ activations are responded to and documented accordingly.
-
Take predetermined action and assist in cases of emergencies such as accident, fire and aggression.
Safety & Security Equipment Servicing and Monitoring
-
Ensure that safety and security equipment, for instance, the CCTV system, Access Control and fire-fighting equipment are serviced periodically and are functioning well.
-
Ensure that the CCTV Control Room Protocols are in place and Strict Confidentiality of the place and data is maintained.
-
Ensure that panic alarm buttons, walk-through metal detectors, hand-held wands are in place and are serviced regularly to ensure optimum functionality.
-
Ensure that, inventory of all the equipment are in place and are updated regularly as per the JCI requirement
Supervisory Role
-
Oversee management, coaching, and motivation of in-house and outsourced security staff.
-
Ensure timely performance evaluations, annual appraisals, and duty roster planning for 24/7 coverage.
-
Coordinate leave planning and review of job descriptions for continuous improvement.
-
Ensure that appropriate disciplinary measures in line with institutional policies are taken against wayward officers.
-
Ensure that a sound duty roster is in place for 24/7 coverage of the hospital.
Risk Assessment & Control
-
Plan and coordinate annual safety and security-related risk assessments of the hospital and its affiliated entities.
-
Overseeing the implementation of risk control and preventive measures.
-
Overseeing the development, reviews of the departmental risk registers.
Implementation of the agreed Service Level Agreements as per the existing departmental contracts.
-
Ensure that all emergency and crisis management assets are available and support a timely, coordinated response to incidents as they occur.
-
Accurately match invoices with Local Purchase Orders (LPOs) and ensure they are reviewed, approved, and processed for payment in a timely manner.
-
Assist in evaluating the performance of contracted services and contribute to the development and implementation of improvement measures.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Department Manager.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in criminology, Security Management, Forensics, or a related field is preferred.

Advanced training or professional certification in safety and security is an added advantage.
-
At least 5 years of experience in healthcare safety and/or security is required.

Strong foundation in JCI, SafecCare, and CUE accreditation standards and audit processes is desirable
-
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Effective people management and supervisory capabilities.

Job Summary
The Research Officer will support the implementation of environmental research activities within a pregnancy–birth cohort study in Isiolo County, Kenya. The Research Officer will be responsible for supporting the collection of environmental exposure data, assisting with field-based environmental assessments, community engagement activities, and contributing to the overall implementation of research activities.
Responsibilities

Familiarize themselves with study protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), data collection tools, and informed consent procedures to ensure adherence to study guidelines.

Assist with environmental exposure assessments at the individual, household, and community levels in accordance with the study protocol, including the installation and monitoring of environmental monitoring equipment where required.

Support the deployment and monitoring of wearable devices among study participants, including providing instructions on their proper use and maintenance

Assist in maintaining quality control procedures for environmental and study-related data collection

Ensure accurate documentation and timely reporting of adverse events, including maintaining complete raw data and records.

Requirements
