Job Description
AMI is looking for a talented and detail-oriented Kiswahili Translator to support the accurate and culturally relevant translation of learning and program materials from English to Kiswahili. This role is critical in ensuring that AMI's content reaches and resonates with Kiswahili-speaking audiences across Africa — preserving not just the words, but the meaning, tone, and intent behind every resource. The ideal candidate is a language professional who combines linguistic precision with cultural sensitivity, and who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced content environment.
Roles and responsibilities
Translation: Accurately translate resources, from English to Kiswahili, while preserving the content’s context, style, and tone.
Proofreading:Â Thoroughly edit translated materials to ensure language accuracy and consistency.
Cultural Adaptation:Â Ensure that the translated materials are culturally relevant and appropriate for the intended audience.
Quality Assurance:Â Perform quality checks on translated content and make necessary revisions to maintain standards of quality.
Collaboration:Â Effectively collaborate with the content development team and other stakeholders to ensure communication and teamwork.
Technology Familiarity:Â Utilize translation software and tools to improve efficiency and accuracy in the translation process.
Meeting Deadlines:Â Effectively prioritize translation assignments to meet project deadlines.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, Languages, Communications, or a related field.
5+ years of Proven experience in professional translation, preferably English ↔ Kiswahili.
Excellent command of both English and Kiswahili, with strong grammar, spelling, and editing skills.
Strong understanding of cultural nuances to ensure accurate and context-sensitive translations.
Detail-oriented with strong proofreading and quality assurance skills.
Familiarity with translation tools, software, and technology to enhance efficiency.
Ability to work independently while maintaining clear communication with teams and stakeholders.
Strong time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
