JOB PURPOSE
The HSS Intern will provide technical, research, coordination, operational and administrative support across the Health Systems Strengthening Directorate’s technical pillars as well as the cross-cutting programs, departments and projects in the Directorate.
The intern will support evidence generation, technical documentation, stakeholder coordination, program implementation activities and knowledge management processes while gaining exposure to health systems strengthening programming, policy and technical assistance initiatives across Africa.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Evidence Generation and Technical Research
Support literature reviews, desk reviews, and evidence synthesis across HSS thematic areas including PHC, RMNCAH, SDoH, health workforce, and health financing.
Assist in compiling technical information and background materials for projects, meetings, and strategic engagements.
Support development of technical briefs, presentations, reports, and knowledge products.
Contribute to evidence generation and documentation of lessons learned across HSS initiatives.
Technical Writing, Reporting and Documentation
Support drafting and editing of workshop reports, meeting summaries, concept notes, technical documents, and presentations.
Assist in documenting stakeholder engagements, webinars, consultations, and strategic discussions.
Support organization and maintenance of technical documentation and knowledge management systems.
Assist in preparing dissemination and communication materials for internal and external audiences.
Coordination and Program Support
Assist in preparing agendas, presentations, attendance tracking, and follow-up actions and action points from meetings.
Support coordination of meetings, workshops, learning exchanges and technical engagements.
Assist in preparing agendas, tracking action points, and following up on deliverables.
Support collaboration across technical teams, consultants, country offices, and partners.
Assist with logistical, administrative and operational coordination for Directorate activities and events.
Knowledge Management and Operational Support
Support maintenance and organization of repositories, technical resources, and documentation systems.
Assist in tracking technical outputs, deliverables, and program milestones.
Contribute to internal learning and knowledge-sharing initiatives within the Directorate.
Support cross-functional collaboration and internal coordination across HSS Directorate.
Qualifications
Experience and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Global Health, Health Policy, Social Sciences, International Development, or related field.
Strong interest in health systems strengthening and public health programming in Africa.
Basic understanding of public health systems, health policy, and development programming.
Experience in academic research, report writing, or student-led projects is an added advantage.
Strong writing, analytical, and organizational skills.
Ability to synthesize information and communicate effectively.
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to manage multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
Professionalism, adaptability, and willingness to learn.
JOB PURPOSE
The Health Financing Intern will support the Health Financing pillar within the HSS Directorate by contributing to technical research, evidence synthesis, policy analysis, stakeholder coordination, and documentation related to health financing and Universal Health Coverage (UHC) initiatives across Africa.
The intern will support ongoing HQ projects and technical workstreams through literature reviews, data analysis, report writing, coordination support, and development of knowledge products that contribute to strengthening health financing systems, strategic purchasing, domestic resource mobilization, and health policy reforms.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Evidence Generation and Technical Research
Support literature reviews, desk reviews, and evidence synthesis related to health financing, UHC, strategic purchasing, PHC financing, and health systems reforms.
Assist in compiling and analyzing technical information from country reports, policy documents, and financing frameworks.
Support data collection, organization, and interpretation for ongoing technical assessments and research activities.
Contribute to development of technical briefs, summaries, presentations, and policy-oriented materials.
Technical Writing, Reporting and Documentation
Support drafting and editing of reports, workshop summaries, concept notes, presentations, and meeting documentation.
Assist in documenting technical discussions, stakeholder consultations, and learning exchange activities.
Support development and organization of knowledge management materials and technical repositories.
Contribute to packaging evidence and findings for dissemination to internal and external stakeholders.
Stakeholder Engagement and coordination Support
Assist in preparing agendas, presentations, attendance tracking, and follow-up actions from meetings.
Liaise with internal technical teams and external stakeholders to support smooth implementation of activities.
Support coordination of multicountry and cross-functional engagements within the Directorate.
Programmatic and Operational Support
Support implementation of ongoing health financing activities and technical workstreams.
Assist in tracking deliverables, timelines, and reporting requirements for projects and activities.
Support organization of technical resources, reference materials, and institutional documentation.
Contribute to internal learning and continuous improvement initiatives within the Directorate.
Qualifications
Experience and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Health Economics, Economics, Finance, Public Health, Health Policy, or health related field.
Strong interest in health financing, UHC, health policy, and health systems strengthening.
Basic understanding of healthcare financing, Primary Healthcare,public health concepts, and UHC.
Experience conducting literature reviews, desk reviews, or academic research is an added advantage.
Strong writing, analytical, and organizational skills.
Ability to synthesize information and present findings clearly.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
High level of professionalism, adaptability, and willingness to learn.
