Duties and Responsibilities entail

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:-

Ensuring the vessel (boat/craft) is maintained to seaworthy conditions as per SOLAS;
Organizing for the safe stowage (anchorage, berthing or mooring) of the vessel;
Navigating the craft safely within the prescribed area as per COLREG;
Operating the machinery and equipment onboard safely as per SOLAS;
Ensuring that the craft's statutory documents/records are updated;
Ensuring timely maintenance of the craft's life-saving equipment;
Ensuring safety of crew, passengers and the craft;
Maintaining the vessel log books;
Supervising the maintenance and service of the boat navigation equipment;
Overseeing the maintenance and service the boat's propulsion machinery;
Maintaining and updating all the maintenance and repair work records;
Requisitioning bunkers, oils and other stores;
Managing records on the expenditure of bunkers and stores;
Overseeing the vessel's inventory for machinery and other materials is updated;
Strictly observe and adhere to anti-pollution policy as per IMO.Reg.Marpol.

Required Qualification
For appointment to this grade, a staff must have: -

Cumulative six (6) years relevant work experience three (3) of which should have been at the level of Coxswain I or a comparable position;
Lower grades typically require:
Cumulative Service period of six (6) years relevant work experience three (3) of which should have been at the level of Coxswain II or a comparable position;
Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Grade D or its equivalent;
Coxswain I Certificate in accordance with Merchant Shipping Act and its regulations;
Basic Safety Training Course (STCW);
Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (other than fast Rescue Boats);
Proficiency in computer applications.
